Wondering how Cantalini's came to be a favorite icon in Playa del Rey? It all started when Giovanni Cimino came to California from Salerno Beach, Italy and opened Giovanni's Salerno Beach Restaurant in the early 60s. His menu was a simple reflection of the old world Southern Italian cooking and it became popular with many of the locals who, to this day, reminisce about the many memories made within these walls.
What was uniquely Giovanni was his colorful personality ranging from his Christmas themed décor to his spontaneous opera singing while serving his guests. There are so many stories from those days and we are pleased to have evolved into what Cantalini's is today, 25 years and counting.
